John Arthur Osborne was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Boulder. He died on Oct. 22, 2017, in Tulsa, Okla.
He was a graduate of Boulder High School, Coffeyville College and the University of Tulsa. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a certified public accountant. His accounting career started with Amoco, and he moved to public accounting with Frazer & Torbet.
He found his professional love with the University of Tulsa. After 34 years, he retired in 1995 as associate vice president and controller.
After retiring, he became a social justice advocate, volunteering his time and professional expertise with Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry, Oklahoma Conference of Churches, Tulsa Interfaith Alliance and Turning Point.
He served his church, St. Dunstan's Episcopal, as vestry member and treasurer, and
The Timbers Homeowners Association as board member and treasurer.
He is survived by his wife, Jane D. Osborne; sister Jerre Sue Vos, Greeley; brother-in-law Jim Elder and Pat, Tulsa; stepdaughters Rhonda Aud and Cary of Broken Arrow, Okla., Lisa Bishop and Craig Marrs of LaQuinta, Calif., and Bonnie Bishop and Priscilla Camp of El Cerrito, Calif.; eight devoted grandchildren and five great-grandchildren plus many Colorado nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Erma Lou Osborne; sister JoAnne and husband Earl Cummings of Boulder; stepdaughter Paula Fenix; and, late wife Mary Elder Osborne.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, Tulsa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, the University of Tulsa or Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry.
