DAVID HAMMOND Obituary

HAMMOND DAVID A. HAMMOND, Ph.D., 92, of South Euclid. Beloved husband of 63 years of the late Elaine (nee: Brown) Hammond, Ph.D.; loving father of Robert D. (Patty) Hammond of Orange Village, Margaret Sagri of South Euclid, Bruce A. (Joyce) Hammond of Clarkston, Michigan and Patricia (Ken) Blask of Painesville; dear grandfather Andria Sagri, David E. (Talia) Hammond, Elizabeth (Daniel Smith) Hammond, Alissa (Michael Shields) Sagri, Bradley Hammond, James Blask, Kimberly Hammond, Christopher (Kristine) Hammond and Sarah Blask; great grandfather of Malik, Myles, Lily, Camden and Mabel; dear brother of Eric (Barbara) Hammond of Derby, VT and the late Milton Hammond and Priscilla Plante; brother-in-law of Phyllis Hammond; son of the late Earl S. and Marion (Coburn) Hammond. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Born June 20, 1920 in Newport, VT, a longtime Cleveland area resident, Dr. Hammond passed away peacefully, following a long illness, surrounded by his family on Monday, March 11, 2013. He was a member of Willoughby United Methodist Church, where he was in the Men's Fellowship, served as an usher and taught Sunday school for many years. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, fishing, gardening and was an avid reader. He was also a member of Kendal at Home and enjoyed many of their activities. He was a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont and earned his Doctorate in Chemical Engineering at the former Case Institute of Technology (now Case Western Reserve University) in Cleveland. Dr. Hammond was a research scientist with Saint-Gobain, formerly Harshaw Chemical Company, and held multiple patents in his field. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Friday, March 15, 2013 at DAVIS-BABCOCK FUNERAL HOME, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby, 44094. Funeral services, Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 1 PM at WILLOUGHBY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 15 Public Square, Willoughby, 44094. The Rev. Donald R. Perks will officiate at the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Willoughby United Methodist Church, 15 Public Square, Willoughby, OH 44094 or a favorite charity. www.davisbabcock.com

My sympathies to all of David's children and grandchildren -- I knew him at church and he always had a smile and warm greeting -- he was a good role model for a positive attitude under challenging circumstances!!
