MARIAN HECKATHORNE CARLL

1920 - 2014

CARLL MARIAN HECKATHORNE CARLL, 93, died peacefully on April 23, 2014 in Cleveland, Ohio. Born on July 2, 1920 in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Floyd B. and Wilda S. Heckathorne. Raised in Oil City, she attended Oil City High School and graduated in 1938. She then attended Franklin Business School in preparation for becoming a secretary for the National Transit Company where she worked until 1944. On June 6, 1944, she married the late Paul L. Carll of Seneca, a returning combat pilot. After the war, the couple settled in Cleveland Ohio, started a family, and began a journey that took them to Houston, Texas then Cleveland, Ohio, then back to Houston and finally settling in Cleveland where they spent the next 40 years. During that time, Marian raised a daughter and two sons while supporting her world-traveling husband. In what little spare time she had, she managed to master such crafts as porcelain painting, needlepoint, rug hooking, decoupage, candy making and landscape gardening. In addition, she was an active member of Lyndhurst Presbyterian Church as well as a voracious reader and an active member of the Literary Society. A loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt, cousin and friend, she kept in close touch with those around her. When Paul retired, she accompanied him on a full schedule of international travel and visits to children, grandchildren and friends, which they continued until Paul passed away in 2006. Surviving are her children, Thomas P. Carll and his wife Sheryl of Utica, PA, Peggy L. Carll also of Utica, PA; her daughter-in-law Cynthia Carll of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jennifer McNally of North Yarmouth, Maine, Elizabeth Friedman and her husband Jared of Vancouver, BC, Nicholas Keene of Breckenridge Colorado, Michael Keene of Cincinnati Ohio, Matthew Carll of Houston Texas and Aimee Carll also of Houston Texas; as well as great-grandchildren, Grace and Tess McNally of North Yarmouth Maine, Aurora Friedman of Vancouver, BC and beloved nieces, nephews and friends far too numerous to mention. In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Heckathorne; her son, William F. Carll; and her husband, Paul Carll. Friends will be received FROM 12 NOON TO 2 P.M. AT MORRISON FUNERAL HOME, 110 PETROLEUM STREET, OIL CITY, PENNSYLVANIA where a funeral service will follow at 2 P.M. A private interment will take place beside her husband and son at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.
