Alton McGee, 89

TURKEY — Mr. Alton McGee, 89, of 401 Thomson Ave., passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at his home.

The funeral will be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 15, at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton with the Rev. Danny Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 16, at the family cemetery across from his home in Turkey.

Mr. McGee, born in Sampson County, was the son of the late Alton McGee, Sr. and Arabella Thomson McGee. He was a farmer and a member of Turkey Methodist Church. Mr. McGee was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, and he was the daddy that did not have to be. He was preceded in death by two wives, Teresa Thigpen McGee and Mary Lou Moody McGee.

He is survived by four children, Charles Smith and wife, Betty of Turkey, Robert Jones and wife, Thelma of Goldsboro, Kathleen Jones of Turkey, and Peggy Jones Autry and husband, Lynwood of Clinton; four grandchildren, Charles Alton Smith and wife, Leigh Ann of Autryville, Penny Lee Smith Bradshaw and husband, Matt of Surf City, John McGee of Turkey, and Robbie Jones of Cary; four great-grandchildren, Charlie Bradshaw, Dylan Bradshaw, Cole Smith, Robby Jones and Kristy Lawrence; a sister, Shaw Bryant of Turkey and her son, David Lewis; a nephew, George Pinyatello and wife, Mae; a niece, Jane Boose and husband, Bill; four great-nephews and great-nieces, Beth King, Amy Lennon, Michael Boose and Kendall Boose; and seven great-great nephews and great-great nieces, Zachary King, Maegan Lennon, Ava Lennon, Dylan Rich, Emily Rich, Maddox Boose and Paxton Boose.

The family will receive friends following the funeral service Saturday evening, March 15, at the funeral home and other times at the home.
