CLINTON — Mrs. Lillian Elizabeth Pope, 79, of 846 Rowan Road, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at Sampson Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 31 at Rowan Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Phillips and the Rev. Tommy Denton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Pope, born in Ridgeland, S.C., was the daughter of the late Howard Lee Denton and Thelma Altman Denton. She was a member of Rowan Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, and member of WMU. She was a lifetime member of the National Guard Auxillary and past president. After working as an insurance clerk at Clinton Medical Clinic, she continued her work at Dr. John Surrat's office before retiring. Mrs. Pope was predeceased by a brother, J.C. "Jake" Denton, and a sister, Thelma "Cookie" Collins. Mrs. Pope is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald Eugene Pope of the home; three children, Donna P. Ellis and husband, Mike, Ricky Pope and wife, Allan, and Neal Pope and wife, Leah; brother; Danny Denton and wife, Teresa of Ridgeland, S.C.; grandchildren, Josh Ellis, Anna Ellis, Matthew Pope, Victoria Pope, Jenny Pope, and Haley Pope; and great-grandchild, TaMya Garner. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 30 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and other times at the home.
