Dan C. Bowden, 65
CLINTON — Dan Clark Bowden, 65, of 11040 Hobbton Hwy., passed away at his home on Feb. 13, 2014.
The funeral will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton Grove on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. with the Very Rev. James F. Garneau officiating.
Dan was born November 16, 1948 to Mary Lou Grimes Bowden and Thomas Kennon Bowden. Dan started his career as a Deputy Sheriff and then Detective for Sheriff Graham Butler and Sheriff Cranford Fann. He also served with Sheriff Buck McCullen but opened a swine farm operation and resigned his position as Deputy Sheriff to take care of his hog farm business. Dan married Mary Herring in 1998, and when Sheriff Jimmy Thornton was elected, Sheriff Thornton asked Dan and Mary to return as part-time Sergeants of the Bailiff squad in the court room. They worked approximately three years before deciding to retire full time. Dan was a devoted Catholic and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lou and Kennon Bowden; and a brother, Tommy Bowden.
Dan is survived by a brother, Herbert Grimes Bowden; and wife, Daphne of Clinton.
A rosary and visitation will be held 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at West & Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove. The family will receive friends other times at the home of his brother, Herbert Bowden, 11294 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton.
