Johnnie E. Huddleston, 82

DUNN — Mr. Johnnie Elvin Huddleston, 82, of Duncan Earl Lane died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at his home.

Johnnie was born Jan. 14, 1932 in Terry County, Texas. He is the son of the late Calvin Owen and Anna Belle Crocket Huddleston.

Johnnie loved his family and friends. He was a 31 year U.S. Marine Veteran serving from Sept. 9, 1949 until Oct. 1, 1979 in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23 at Bethel Christian Church in Burlington with the Rev. Barry Lane officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall after the graveside service.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sue Shaw Huddleston of the home; daughters, Peggy Diane Strasser and husband, Diarmuid, of Iowa and Linda Susan McCullough and husband, Dan, of Georgia; son, Steven Wayne Huddleston of California; stepchildren, Becky Morris and husband, Phillip, of Burlington, Louie Tayloe (Ted) Slaughter and wife, Camberly, of Dunn; five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; brothers Gene Huddleston and Thomas Huddleston, both of Texas; and sisters, Opal Jackson of Oklahoma and Helen Huddleston of Texas.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 21, from 6-8 p.m. at Cromartie Miller and Lee Funeral Home in Dunn.
