Martha Q. Chappell, 87
CLINTON – Mrs. Martha Ellen Quinn Chappell, 87, died late Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at home after a long illness.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Pinecrest Cemetery in Warsaw with the Rev. Dennis Guy officiating.
Mrs. Chappell was the daughter of the late John Robert Quinn and Annie Mae Boyette Quinn of Warsaw. She was known by many as a registered nurse at Sampson Regional Medical Center, where she worked for many years. She began her nursing career as a U.S. cadet nursing student, graduating from the three-year diploma school of nursing at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC in 1948. She also worked in hospitals in Norfolk and Newport News, Va. and Goldsboro, N.C., as well as the O'Berry Center Infirmary in Goldsboro and Mary Gran Nursing Home. She retired at age 62 and even more actively attended services and activities at First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Chappell was predeceased by two siblings, Clifton Quinn and Ruth Quinn Outlaw. She is survived by a daughter, LaRue of Clinton; a grandson, Benjamin of Clinton; and a brother, Jesse (Teeny) Quinn of Warsaw.
Donations to good charities benefitting children, animals, battered women and health research will be welcomed in lieu of flowers.
