Loreta M. Mercer, 94

CLINTON — Mrs. Loreta Ila Mintz Mercer, 94, of 120 Southwood Drive, died Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Mary Gran Nursing Center.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Shook officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.

Born in 1919 in New Hanover County, Mrs. Mercer was the daughter of the late Benjamin Julius & Lavada Sellers Mintz and the widow of C.J. Mercer Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of Grove Park Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Deloriese Lockerman and husband Jones of Chadbourn; one son, C.J. Mercer, Jr. and wife Linda of Parkersburg; two sisters, Mary Olive Vogels of Edisto Beach, S.C. and Betty Williams of Shallotte; two brothers, Lloyd Mintz and Fritz Mintz, both of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Mary Susan Donaldson and Christopher Alan Mercer; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Donaldson and Taylor Donaldson.

Mrs. Mercer was preceded in death by a brother, Julius Mintz; one sister, Ethel Smith and a granddaughter, Lynn Starling.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
