Parnell R. Matthis, 88

CLINTON — Mrs. Parnell Register Matthis, 88 of 5641 Moseley Ave., died at Sampson Regional Medical Center May 29, 2014.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry King and the Rev. David McClellan officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in 1926 in Sampson County Mrs. Matthis was the daughter of Cecil and Lola Tew Register. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and a retired teacher's assistant with Sampson County Schools.

She is survived by her husband, Elbert Thomas Matthis; two sons, Tony Matthis and wife, Eleanor of Clinton and Ronnie Matthis and wife, Betty of Clinton; two brothers, Craven Register and Haywood Register both of Clinton; three sisters,Mozzelle Hope, Sybil Smith of Clinton and Mae Eleanor Sullivan of Wilmington; Five grandchildren, Mary Barefoot, Scott Matthis, Ann Strother, Rhonda Cannady and Jamie Matthis; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
