RED SPRINGS — Ms. Peggy Jean Ammons, 70, of 9205 N.C. Hwy. 71, Red Springs, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013.

The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Holly Grove Holiness Church, with the Rev. Dr. Randy Simmons and Elder Michael Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Ms. Ammons, born in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late William D. "W.D." Ammons and Mildred Simmons Ammons. She was the widow of Kenneth Bates. Ms. Ammons was a caregiver in the mental health field. She served the Lord by serving others. Ms. Ammons was predeceased by brothers and sisters; Carthenia Brewington,Pearly Brewington, Mose Ammons, Magaline Jacobs, Sudie Emmanuel, Gearldiane Brewington, Hubert Ammons, Bethel Ammons, Dorothy Vinson, Mary Jacobs and Barney Ammons and a step-son Roy A. Locklear.

Survivors are: brother Rev. Wilbert Ammons, sister Lulla Maynor and husband Roy of Hope Mills, NC, ; two step sons, Kenny Locklear of California , James Locklear of Roberson Co. and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM, one hour prior to the service, at the church and other times at the home of the Rev. Wilbert Ammons, 1630 Indian Town Rd. Clinton.
