NEW YORK, N.Y. — Mr. James Alfred Chesnutt, III, (Jimmy), 70, of 313 W 17th St., New York, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12, at Clinton City Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Shook officiating.
Mr. Chesnutt, born July 31, 1944, in Sampson County, was the son of the late James Alfred Chesnutt and Gladys Moore Chesnutt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Greg Chesnutt. He was a set designer in the theater industry in New York City.
Jimmy lived in Turkey until eighth grade, at which time his family relocated to Clinton. He later earned a Masters Degree in Set Design from Yale University.
He worked for the YWCA of USA for ten years, then after another ten years, retired from his work at Columbia University. During these years, he designed more than one hundred theatrical productions as set designer. He was an avid theatergoer and an art enthusiast.
He is survived by his partner, Ernesto Bachiller (Ernie) of Jackson Heights, N.Y. and a brother, Charles Chesnutt of Hawaii.
The family will receive friends at the gravesite immediately after the service.
