Dan McLamb

ROSEBORO — Mr. Daniel Weeks McLamb, 80, of 673 Harnett Church Rd., died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at his home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 27, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Elam Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Brooks and the Rev. Daniel Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Elam Church Cemetery.

Dan was born Nov. 30, 1934 in Sampson County. He was the son of the late Elwood and Hazel Weeks McLamb. Dan was a retired dairy farmer. He was a member of Mt. Elam Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a charter member of the Herring Volunteer Fire Dept. Dan, with the help of his three legged dog, Percy, was the 1977 National Hollerin' Champion appearing on the Johnny Carson Tonight Show and the Mike Douglas Show. Dan loved and was involved in local politics. He served two terms as Sampson County Commissioner from 1968-1976. Dan was inducted into the Sampson County Republican Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ida Marie Warren McLamb; two daughters, Marsha Joyner Bissette and husband, Ed, of Surf City; and Angela McLamb Core and husband, Edwin, of Dunn; five grandchildren, Jennifer Joyner Facciolini, Melissa Joyner McLamb, Daniel Lee Joyner, Maria and Matthew Core; five great-grandchildren, Michael McLamb, Andrew and Ashlyn Facciolini, Hannah Grace and Norah Joyner. Also survived by his three sisters, Mary Wright Clement and Lynn Owen of Clinton and Eloise Hines of Wilmington.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Elwood McLamb and son-in-law, Randy Joyner.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Royal-Hall Funeral Home and other times at his home.
