I remember Ms Skarda gingerly hopping onto the large, oval shaped colloquia (small class forum) table and then walking across it to hand papers out to students with her usual flourish! Recently, when my older son's middle school ELA teacher left the small little Catholic school he attends - and Mrs Kanzaki was a towering legend there too - I couldn't help but think of how she's impacted his life in ways similar to how Pat impacted my life, and I know we both treasure everything we learned from them.

Pat Skarda was an amazing light into the world of literature, writing and critical thinking, so I will always remember her for all the joy and challenges she put in front of students like me at each class meeting, each office hour encounter. I'm not sure they make English teachers like her anymore... We will miss you.

Pat was a stalwart supporter of Smith's mission for students and alumnae. It was always a pleasure to work and travel with her.

Dr. Skarda was one of my favorite Smith professors. I made it a point to take many of her courses. She was so well respected that it felt like a privlidge to have her single out your paper and read it to the class. Dr. Skarda also had the ability to make you feel like an embraced member of the Smith community. I remember being invited to her apartment on several occasions with the rest of my English class. Truly a Smith treasure. She will be missed.
