Billy Joe Hatley, age 85, of Clovis, NM passed away on May 22, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Central Baptist Church with Dick Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Joe was born November 18, 1928, to William and Effie Hatley in Colliville, TX. He was raised in Olton, TX. He married Alice (Susie) Clayton on August 22, 1948, in Broadview, NM. They were married 65 years.
Survivors include his wife Susie Hatley of Clovis, NM; two daughters, Terri (Buzz) Greenwalt, Pam (Tim) Sweet, and one son Randie (Pam) Hatley, all of Clovis; nine grandchildren: Cisti, Kane, Devin, Deke, Dayrin, Faryn, Adria, Wesley, and Drew; fourteen great grandchildren: Alyxa, Teagan, Caydance, Keeli, Kanie, Daulton, Brooklyn, Anthony, Valerie, Raven, Jalen, Hailey, Henley, and Knox; two sisters: Mary (Robert) Dennis of Olton, TX, Mae (Bill) Applewhite of Granbury, TX; two brothers: Marvin (Joyce) Hatley of Amarillo, TX and Herbert (Maggie) Hatley of McAllen, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Effie, six brothers; Donald, Elvis, Arthur, Jack, Walker, and Woodrow, one sister Izora, one son Rickie Joe, and one grandson Coby Joe and one great grandson Riley.
Anyone who knew Joe, knew he was a sports fanatic! He was involved in little league sports through senior leagues. His love and passion was watching his kids and grandkids throughout their sporting endeavors. He was always their #1 fan. He enjoyed spending time at the Retirement Center playing bingo and visiting with the residents. He liked visiting his homebound friends. Everyone who knew Joe, always called him "Papa Joe"

I met mr. Hatley at the retirement ranch helping people play bingo. This was my only contact with him and I appreciated him giving his time to help those less fortunate.
