Georgia Womack(1924-2012)

Funeral services for Georgia Womack, 88, of Portales will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 1, 2012, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Jared Womack, Quinten Womack, Michael Hoffman, Chris Inge, Josh Inge, and Clinton Turner serving as pallbearers. The Heartland Continuing Care Center staff and Dr. Joyce Roberts will be honorary pallbearers.
Georgia Louise Womack was born July 7, 1924, in Joplin, MO, to the home of Edith and George W. Hampton and died November 28, 2012, in Portales. When she was a year old the family moved to Tress, KS, and five years later to Phillips, TX. Shortly after moving to Phillips, her grandfather, who lived in Noxie, OK, became unable to operate the family farm. So, her family moved to Noxie to take over the farm. When she was a teenager, she and her family moved to Borger, TX. She eventually went to work in a variety store. On July 11, 1948 in Borger, she was married to J.W. Womack. They moved to the Floyd and Bethel community about 1952, and farmed there until 1960 when they came to Portales.
Mrs. Womack was a member of the Baptist Church, and was active in the VFW Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed flower gardening and watching the humming birds, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She provided day care for several of her grandchildren, especially Karen's two sons.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Debbie Womack of Clovis; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Michael Hoffman, Susan Womack and Karen and Rick Inge all of Portales; nine grandchildren, Wendy Turner, Michael (Gina) Hoffman, Joshua (Veronica) Inge, Christopher Inge, Jared Womack, Quinten Womack, Michelle Shaffer, Michael Brown, Nichole (Chris) Crawford; ten great-grandchildren, Clinton and Zachary Turner, Hunter, Ethan, and Madison Hoffman, Riley, Bryce and Caitlin Shaffer, Hailey Renfro and Brayden Bryant; two brothers, Gus Hampton and Gene Sewell both of Amarillo; and a sister, LaVaughn Back also of Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alfred Hampton, and by her husband, J. W. Womack who died July 1, 1983.
