Nancy Jane Tillotson Wiggins, 72, of Portales, NM was born May 14, 1941, in Ransom, KS to John and Mary (Barber) Tillotson. She married Walter Isaac Wiggins June 15, 1965, in Albuquerque, NM. He passed away April 10, 2008. Nancy went to be with the Lord, Monday, February 3, 2014, in Lubbock, TX.
Nancy graduated from Albuquerque Valley High School in 1959. While in high school, she was a newspaper reporter
, active in the Outdoor Club, played violin in the orchestra and was a member of the Episcopal Church Choir. She went on to attend the Oklahoma College for Women and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1964. While in college, she belonged to the Da Gamma Ve social club, continued playing the violin, and belonged to the Episcopal Club. After graduation, Nancy was offered a Home Economics teaching position with the Wagon Mound, NM Public School where she taught for two years, then worked for the H.E.L.P. program for 6 months.
Nancy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wagon Mound, NM for many years. After moving to Portales, she became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Floyd. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star and the Levi Community Club. Nancy had a passion for reading, sewing, baking, holidays and special occasions. She had decorations, hand towels and socks for each holiday. Her gift to remember dates was remarkable and was known for sending cards and letters to many people as they celebrated their special occasions. Nancy adored corresponding with people through letters, telephone calls and personal visits. She had such a gentle, kind spirit and will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish her memories are her 2 daughters: Brenda (Julian) Gonzales of Portales, NM and Michelle (Carlos) Romero of Watrous, NM. In 1979, a 14 year old boy arrived on the family ranch and ultimately became a son adopted by love: Carlos (Mary) Lozano of Las Cruces, NM. Nancy has 2 sisters: Marilyn (Jim) Bailey of Las Cruces, NM, and Margaret "Meg" (Keith) Thomas of Grants, NM; 1 brother: Charles (Maryteresa) Tillotson of Pie Town, NM; 7 grandchildren: Derek, Stacie, Austin, Arianna, Lori, Roberta and Ruben; 8 great-grandchildren: Colton, Hayley, J.C., Briana, Savannah, Javier, Jr., Estevan and Ruben, Jr. as well as numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Floyd, NM with pastor Liz Smith officiating. Cremation was under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors of Wolfforth, TX.
