Charles "Norwell" Anderson, 84
Funeral services for Charles "Norwell" Anderson, 94, of Portales, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Marlin Poynor officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery. Anyone wishing to make donations, may send them to the New Mexico Christian Children's Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130 or any organization of their choice.
Charles Norwell Anderson was born December 2, 1919, in Cone, TX to the home of Mayme (Lyda) and Charley C. Anderson and died May 5, 2014, in Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Anderson grew up in Floyd, and graduated from Floyd High School in 1940. On July 21, 1940, he was married to Rosalie Kimbell. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was discharged in 1946. Following his discharge, he returned to Portales. Mr. Anderson reared his family in Portales and later Alamogordo. He owned and operated a dirt moving company for many years, and retired in 1984. Norwell moved back to Portales in 2002, residing at Golden Acres, and enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and making new friends for the past 12 years.
Mr. Anderson enjoyed fishing and hunting. He always looked forward to the annual family reunions, when they would all go camping together. For several years, he participated in a senior observers program in the municipal courts in Alamogordo. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, C. B. and Darlene Anderson of Albuquerque and Jerry and Mary Anderson of Las Cruces; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Kay and John Banfill of Albuquerque; six grandchildren, Natalie (Todd) Lund, Chad (Jennifer) Anderson, Clint and Dawn Anderson, and Ashley and Landon Banfill and four great-grandchildren, Haley and Michael Thompson, and Cameron and Karissa Anderson; a brother, Sid Anderson of Alamogordo; two sisters, Wilma Jean Kimbell of Lovington and Lura Miller of Santa Maria, CA; a sister-in-law, Bette Kimbell of Portales and a close friend Cleta Carr, also of Portales. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Suggs and Wanda Grider and by his wife, Rosalie who died in 2001.
