James Berry, 91, of Clovis, NM died Monday, September 30, 2013, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2013, at The Chapel 1500 Thornton St. with Rev. Joel Horne officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
James was born November 29, 1921, in Leonard, TX to Emmit Aubry and Mary Lee (Phillips) Berry. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WW II and then married Sula Marie Moore May 16, 1947, in Portales, NM. He was a carpenter, working for Allsup's convenience stores for many years. James was a member of Central Christian Church, and a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening and coaching little league baseball.
Survivors include: two sons; Lynn (Marty) Berry, Glenn Berry both of Clovis, NM, two daughters; Janet Marie (Charles D.) Simpson, Niceville, FL, Jacque Pearl Berry (Phil Smith), Clovis, NM, nine grandchildren, Jennifer Berry (Pete) Tirrell, Blake Berry, J.T. Berry, Tyler Berry, Brandon Simpson, Meghan Simpson, Mariah Smith, Phillip Smith, Garrett Smith, and one great-grandson Owen William Tirrell. He was preceded by his parents, Emmit and Mary Berry, his wife Sula Marie Berry, infant daughter Belenda Sue in 1964, one brother and three sisters.
