M.C. "Kike" Waltmon died on October 29th at age 96 at the Clovis Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He previously resided at Wheatfields Assisted Living.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Cooper Glover officiating.
Kike was born on October 6, 1917, in Farwell, TX. He is survived by his son, Audie Waltmon of Dallas, TX, a grandson, Matthew Waltmon of Keller, TX, a sister, Willie Madera of Clovis, a niece, Sonja Myers of Clovis, a nephew, Adrian Madera of Castle Rock, CO and many other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Naomi Kelm and Pauline Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Kris Waltmon on October 2, 2001 and his parents, Adrian and Myrtle Waltmon.
He attended Ranchvale Schools and after high school attended business school in Clovis. He served in WWII and was sent to the Philippines. Shortly after arriving, he was captured by the Japanese and served 3 1/2 years in a Japanese prison camp. He was a survivor of the Bataan Death March. Kike received the Bronze Star and other awards for his service. After returning from the war, he began ranching south of San Jon. He and Kris retired to Logan, NM. Kike was one of the last survivors of the Bataan Death March from Curry County.
Pallbearers will be Bob Frost, Howard Orgass, Matthew Waltmon, Mark Myers, Kole Glover and Jimmy Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff at Hospice of the Sandias, staff of Clovis Healthcare and Rehab Center, the staff of Wheatfields, and his friends and neighbors. He will be buried in the Waltmon family plot in Bovina, TX.
