Nancy C. Cousar, age 79, of Portales, NM, passed away peacefully early morning on April 14, 2014 at Heartland Health Care Center. Nancy was born April 3, 1935 to Charles and Gladys Paige in Lewisburg, PA. She graduated from Mifflinburg High School in 1953. She married PFC James Robert Kratzer in June 1952 while he was on leave from the Korean War. PFC Kratzer was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery during action at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War.

She worked mainly in restaurants and briefly owned and operated two restaurants in central PA. She then became a seamstress, working in the textile mills in SC and central TN.
Ms Cousar moved to Portales in 1997, and last worked as a seamstress at the Cannon Air force Base Dry Cleaners until 2011. Nancy liked to bowl, sew, and bake delicious Pennsylvania Dutch cookies and pies. She also was a voracious reader of mysteries and suspense books, often reading up to ten books a week. Nancy had been in failing health for the past year, and spent her last eight months at Heartland Continuing Care Center.
She is survived by two sons, James A. Kratzer, Major USAF (Retired) and his wife Pamela D. Kratzer of Portales, Dale R. Kratzer of Port Trevorton, PA, and a daughter, Rose M. Sabin of Portales, NM. A fourth son, Michael died a week after childbirth. Nancy's three grandchildren, Carolyn Solorzano, Jessica Sabin and James N. Kratzer all live in Portales, NM. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren of Portales.
