Funeral services for Betty Lou Richards, 81, of Portales, will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Darryl Tennefos and Jerry Stover officiating. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery with Dion Hightower, Dewayne Hightower, Dallas Cox, Mike Acosta, Brandon Brown, Tim Burreson, Bobby Castillo, and Derick Gibbons as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be all her family and friends.

Betty was born on April 19, 1931, in Roaring Springs, Texas to Lonzo LaMorris and Nola Mae (Mason) Haney and went to be the Lord on May 2, 2012, in Portales. She was born 1 of 16 children with only 10 living to adulthood and married Leon Perry, who preceded her in death, on June 20, 1947 in Hereford, Texas. They lived in the Causey where Leon was Pastor of the Causey Baptist Church. She moved to Portales in 1974 and had been a hairdresser and a home health provider until her stroke. Betty was a devoted member of the Portales Senior Citizens Center and even attended all the dances. She helped in the designing of the current Center. She was a past member of the Southern Baptist Convention. She dearly loved her family and friends.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Leon; her parents; her daughter, Mary Lou Boone; her brothers, Chester Haney, Verdell Haney, Lloyd Haney, Tommy Haney, and Ray Haney; her sisters, Oleta Bruton, Pat Goettsch, Faye Haney Machen, and 1 grandson.
Betty is survived by her sons, Eddie James Perry, Hiram LaMorris "MO" Perry, and John David Bruggeman. She is also survived by her daughters, Jeanette Sue Hill, Donna Anne Warren, Dorris Lea Strong, Deborah Lynn Lewis, and Valerie Nell Cox. Her sister also survives her, Vera Blodgette, as well as 24 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
