Maria Erinea (Irene) Lucero Garcia, 77, of Portales, passed away on July 29, 2015, in Portales.
Maria was born in Tecolotito, NM to Jesus and Estefanita Lucero on July 31, 1937. She married Roberto S. Garcia in October 1978 in Clovis, NM.
Maria was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had many neighborhood children that called her grandma. Maria was kind and everyone loved coming to her home to gather and visit. Many affectionately called her Tia Nea.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Estefanita, her husband, Roberto S. Garcia, her brothers, Jessie Lucero, Alfredo Lucero, Arsenio Lucero, Benino Lucero, Andres Lucero and Orlando Lucero. Also, in heaven, awaiting Maria is her oldest daughter.
Maria is survived by her daughters, Lupe Rodriguez (Pablo Rodriguez), Roberta Calderon (Fernando Calderon) and Angelica Garcia (Joe Lopez). One son, Luis Garcia (Carmen Polk). She has 10 grandchildren, Ricky Cisneros, Carlos Cisneros, Luis Alberto Cisneros, Julissa Garcia, Reyes Calderon, Derek Calderon, Amiah Lopez, Josiah Garcia, Danielle Garcia and Joaquin Garcia. Maria and her late husband Roberto raised their grandson, Josiah Garcia, since he was only a few weeks old. They also helped raise their granddaughter Julissa Garcia. She has many nieces, nephews and cousins that were a very significant part of her life. Maria also had several fur babies that were very important to her, Rudy, RuRu, Gizma Lynn and Chevy. She will celebrate her 78th birthday in heaven.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the personal care of the professionals at Steed-Todd Funeral Home and Crematory, 800 E Manana Blvd, Clovis, New Mexico (575) 763-5541.
