In 1946, when he was 15 years old, the family moved to Portales. Mr. Paiz worked with his father on several local ranches and farms, and also operating their own small farm. He continued to farm, raising peanuts, cotton and sweet potatoes at different times for many years. On Jan. 29, 1957 in Melrose, he was married to Terry Chavez. In the early 1970's Ramon went to work for the City of Portales in the Sanitation Dept., and eventually became the foreman. He retired from the city in the early 1990's. Since his retirement, he had been raising chilies and vegetables to sell in the local Farmer's Market. In addition he also raised a few head of cattle. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of the animals, but his greatest joy was in his family. He especially enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren. He is survived by Terry Paiz, his wife of more than 57years; a son, Ray Paiz of Portales; a daughter, Terri Paiz of Portales; three grandchildren, Antonio and Victor Salazar and T. J. Garcia; and two brothers, Johnny Paiz and Carlos Paiz both of Portales. He was preceded in death by his parents.
