Joseph Ortega age 92 of Clovis, NM passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, at his home in Clovis. Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Muffley Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Fernando Saenz officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. CDT at West Lawn Memorial Park in Dimmitt, TX. Raymond Benavidez, Fernando Vicuna, Omar Gutierrez, Robert Ortega, Nolberto Gutierrez, and Luis Perez will serve as pallbearers.

Joseph was born March 28, 1921, to Amado and Maria (Duran) Ortega in Newlin, TX. He married Luz Elena Vicuna September 3, 2004, in Clovis, NM. Joseph served in the US Army during WWII and worked as a welder. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, VFW, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dimmitt, TX where he served as a Deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Luz Elena of the home; son, Robert Ortega; two step-daughters, Maria (Luis) Perez, and Leticia (Nobert) Gutierrez of Clovis, NM; a special granddaughter, Vanessa Ortega of Albuquerque, NM; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Ortega; and parents, Amado and Maria; and a daughter, Valerie Ortega.
