Onie Marie Meador Obituary
 Onie Marie "Turnbough" Meador "The Cake Lady" age 86 of Clovis, NM passed away Tuesday July 1, 2014, surrounded by her family at her home in Clovis.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 3, 2014, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 5, 2014, at 3:00 PM at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton St. with Pastor Wayne Boydstun officiating.
Burial to follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Garden. Paul Wienhiemer, Adam Rogers, Mark Rogers, Tate Turnbough, Steven Turnbough, and Anthony Chavez will serve as pallbearers.
Onie was born June 13, 1928, in Elida, NM to Allen H. and Lillie Ethel (Corbitt) Turnbough. She lived in Elida, NM until the age of seven, when she moved to Rogers, NM. Onie grew up on a farm in Rogers, where she attended grade school and high school. She graduated from Rogers High School on May 13, 1947. Onie attended the San Jacinto School of Beauty Culture in Amarillo, TX and graduated on January 6, 1948. She worked as a Beautician in Elida, Portales and Lovington, NM. Onie met Raymond Meador in a coffee shop in Lovington. They started dating April 1952 and were married on March 9, 1953, in Portales in a simple ceremony. They made their home in Lovington, from 1953 to 1968, when they moved to Clovis, NM where she resided until her death. Her passions were her family, grandchildren, collecting dishes, gardening and baking. She started baking cakes as a hobby in 1972. Her hobby turned into a full time licensed business. She was adoringly known in the surrounding area as "The Cake Lady". Onie made hundreds of birthday, wedding, anniversary and all occasion cakes. She made thousands of cookies and always had a never ending supply of sugar cookies for her grandchildren. Onie retired from baking in 2010, but made her granddaughter's wedding cake at the age of 82.
She is survived by her children; John and wife, Elizabeth Meador of Clovis, NM, Ann and husband, Steve Rogers of Overland Park, KS, three grandchildren; Lizette Weinheimer and husband Paul and great grandson, Carson of Amarillo, TX. Adam and wife Lauren Rogers of Norfolk, VA, and Mark Rogers of Overland, Park, KS; two brothers, Jim Turnbough and wife Betty of Clovis, NM; Ross Turnbough and wife, Barbara of Portales, NM; sister, Letha Clark of Portales, NM; sister-in-law, Vaunceil Turnbough of Portales, NM; nephews, nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by a baby brother, Ray Jay; her parents, Allen and Ethel Turnbough; her husband, Raymond Meador who died in 1987 after 34 years of marriage; and a younger brother, Arthur Turnbough of Portales, NM. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Presbyterian Plains Regional Medical Center and the Hospice Staff, especially Hope, who was Onie's wonderful nurse.
