 Robert L. Lydick, 87, of Clovis, NM, died Monday, February 7, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 11, 2011, at Kingswood United Methodist Church with Pastor David Bachelor and Don Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories. Pallbearers are John Bourne, Truman Woody, Abby Parrish, Chase Lydick, Devin Shaffer, and Dustin Shaffer. Honorary pallbearers will be the Clovis Men's Non-Denominational Bible Class, Pete Wilt, Paul D. Barnes, Bob Burch, and Jerry Cass.
Robert was born October 17, 1923, to Albert and Nina (Basler) Lydick in Erie, Kansas. He married Arthena May Bennett, May 6, 1944, in Seattle, WA, and they came to Clovis in 1961. He served in the US Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. St. Paul. Professionally he was an Engineer and Land Surveyor since 1958. He served as a Council Chairman for the Boy Scouts and received the Silver Beaver Award and Vigil Honor from the Order of the Arrow. As a Boy Scout tradition, he cooked Mulligan Stew for 40 years. Robert was a founding director of the Clovis Community College Board. He served as the First Chairman of the College Board of Trustees from 1990 to 1995 and also served many years as a trustee. In 2009, he was selected as a Member Emeritius. He also was a founding director of Western Bank of Clovis and continued to serve as a director until his death. He was the President of the Clovis Chamber of Commerce in 1972, President of Clovis Noonday Kiwanis Club in 1969, and he was sworn in by Govenor Anaya as a member of the State Board of Education Finance in 1983.
Survivors include his son, Chad (Vickie) Lydick of Clovis, NM; daughter, Leah (Dale) Shaffer of Enid, OK; seven grandchildren, Chase (Autumn) Lydick, Summer Lydick, Sara Lydick, Shay Lydick, Dustin (Melanie) Shaffer, Devin Shaffer, and Erin Shaffer; and three great-grandchildren, Ayla Lydick, Isaac Lydick, and Kaitlyn Leah Shaffer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Nina; wife, Arthena; a brother, Jesse Lydick, and a sister, Margaret Wheeler.
