Polk grew up on the home place in the Inez community, and graduated from Rogers High School in 1938. On December 9, 1939 in Portales, he was married to Pauline Ferrell. He and Pauline both joined the Roosevelt County Mounted Patrol in 1946 when it was formed, and he was the last surviving charter member. They enjoyed riding in numerous parades together. For many years, he also served on the Inez Cemetery committee.
He is survived by a brother, Walter "Cotton" Clark, a sister, Elizabeth Wortham and a sister-in-law, Letha (Mrs. Clarence) Clark all of Portales as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great- nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Shannon Albert Clark, Jr. and Clarence Clark, a sister, Freeda Rothmel and by his beloved wife, Pauline, who died May 17, 1996, after more than 56 years of marriage.
