Barbara Okoniewski Obituary

Barbara Ann Clark Okoniewski of Middle Grove and the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, N.Y., passed away peacefully Feb. 3, 2013, at the Eddy from pneumonia, with her loving husband, Lou, and children by her side.
Barbara was born Nov. 22, 1930, in Hinesville. She was the daughter of the late Marvin F. Clark and Mary E. Burnley Clark. Barbara married Louis Okoniewski Jr. on July 19, 1954, and became a military wife.
Barbara loved to play the piano and cook. While stationed in Newfoundland, she learned to love hockey and make delicious homemade bread. In turn, the Newfees learned how to make Southern BBQ and hush-puppies. She was noted for her family BBQ sauce recipe.
Barbara loved children and was playground superintendent at St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh, N.Y. There was always a cookout for the neighborhood kids. She loved the family trips when Lou was home from overseas with the Air Force.
After retirement, Barb and Lou moved to Orlando and then to Stone Mountain, where she worked for Ryland Homes. After a number of years down South, they moved to Middle Grove.
Not long after the move, Barbara was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by brothers, Marvin, Malcom and Wilton; sisters, Elizabeth Clark Smith, Eleanor and Ethel Mae.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Louis Okoniewski of Middle Grove; daughters, Louise (Tom Merrills Sr.) of Lake Desolation and Helen Lum of Sanford, Fla., son, Louis ( Charles Harris) Okoniewski of Decatur, Ga., grandchildren, Gera (Stacie) Kittman, Angela (Nate) Stickney, Amanda Lum of Florida; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Liam and Jaxon; a sister, Merle Johnson of Dublin. Ga.; and a brother, Shelby Clark of Jacksonville.
The family would like to thank Dr. Donald Jue, Carol Bullock, the nurses and staff of House 2 for making Barbara comfortable. She made many friends at the Eddy.
There will be no calling hours. Barbara will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. Arrangements are by Tunisons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's name to the chapter of the American Red Cross, 74 Warren St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
