Agnes Verneuil Raiford, 88, of Hinesville passed away, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Ludowici after a short illness.
She was born in New Orleans on Jan. 21, 1925, and lived most of her life in Ponchatoula, La. She moved to Richmond, Va., where she lived for a few years before moving to Hinesville. She was a resident of Coastal Manor Nursing Home where she loved to play bingo and became known as the Bingo Queen.
Agnes is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Ellery P. Raiford and two sons; Thurman and Keith Raiford of Ponchatoula.
She is survived by two sons; Henry (Marcy) Raiford of Hinesville and Bryan (Rhonda Nelson) Raiford of Covington, La.; two daughters, Alicia (Robert) Owens of Richmond and Cathy (Dale) Beard of Denham Springs, La.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her Grandsons in Hinesville are Rodney (Tina) Raiford and Henry (Shelia) Raiford Jr.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 15, at Carter Funeral Home. Visitations at McKneely Funeral Home in Ponchatoula will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, and from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April, 17. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and burial will follow in Ponchatoula Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin Lott, Jordan Lot, Jeff Walker, Chad Beard, Louis Paul Raiford and David Tippitt.
