Alberta (Stewart) Mullins

Mrs. Alberta Stewart Mullins, 89, of Hinesville, departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.
Mrs. Mullins was born in Willie in Liberty County to Wallace and Roxie Porter Stewart. She worked for the Liberty County Board of Education as a cook and retired after years of dedicated service.
Mrs. Mullins and her late husband, Abraham Lincoln Mullins, were dedicated and progressive citizens of Liberty County. Along with Mr. Mullins, Mrs. Mullins was a named plaintiff in litigation that resulted in the integration of Liberty County Schools. Together they facilitated entrepreneurship in the African American community and affiliated themselves with civic and religious organizations in pursuit of lending a helping hand to others less fortunate. She was a dedicated member of Midway Congregational UCC in Midway.
She leaves to cherish her memory to her son, Charlie (Alice) Gaulden of Jackson, Miss.; two daughters, Roberta G. (Joffre) King of Savannah and Regina M. Pearson of Hinesville; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends; and three individuals who were close to her, Paula Mullice, Cinthya Wooten and Lorene Grisby.
Her wake will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Midway Congregational UCC, 8815 E. Oglethorpe Highway in Midway. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pastor Larry Evans will officiate.
