Mr. Avon Fields, 60, of Riceboro departed this life on Thursday June 19, 2014, at the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
He was born May 31, 1954, in Liberty County to the late Arthur Fields Sr. and Sallie Mae Hudson Fields. To this union, seven children were born. After the death of his father, mother Fields remarried the late Collins Young Sr. To this union eleven children were born, along with the addition of four stepchildren.
Mr. Fields was educated in the public schools of Liberty County. He was employed as a construction worker for Union Camp in Eulonia and Coastal Industrial Contracting in Riceboro.
The things that he loved were God, fast cars (Mustangs with powerful motors) and the colors red and blue. He also loved the state of Florida because of the climate. He loved helping people, football and travel.
Mr. Fields was a father of four children; one daughter, LaTonya Fields, preceded him in death. The memory of Avon Fields and other loved-ones gone before will be cherished.
Survivors include two daughters, Shawanna Fields of Riceboro and Tiasha Fields of Killeen, Texas; a son, Octavius Williams of Brunswick; brothers and sisters, Collins (Mamie) Young Jr. of Eulonia, Sadie Mae Roberts (late Willie Roberts) of Riceboro, Bessie (Isum) Ellison of Riceboro, Willie Bea Davis (late Leroy Davis) of Riceboro, Dorothy (Elbert) Rhodes of Riceboro, Carlethia (Joe) West of Riceboro, Moses Young of Riceboro, Martha Cox-Howard of Springfield, Arthur (Ernestine) Fields of Orlando, Fla., Molly (Howard) Sinclair of Riceboro, John (Theresa) Young of Riceboro, Huey (Carolyn) Young of Riceboro, Hollie Young of Hinesville, Rosemary Houston of Riceboro, Pernell (Sherry) Young of Brunswick, Lewis Young and Robert Young of Riceboro, Pauline (Otis) McIver of Riceboro, Paulette Dewitt of Hinesville, (late Benjamin Fields and Ellen Roberts) and Melvin Young of Riceboro; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives.
His wake will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 27, at the New Church of Christ In Unity on Highway 17 South in Riceboro.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Junior Church of Christ In Unity, 122 Retreat Road in Riceboro. Bishop Eddie L. Stevens will preside and Bishop Julian Jones will render the eulogy for Mr. Fields. Interment will be in the First Anderson Grove Church Cemetery in Riceboro.
