Sister Betty Jean Mathew of Riceboro was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at St. Joseph/Candler Hospital in Savannah.
She was born in Riceboro to the late Walter Hines Sr. and Marie Hines. She was married to the late CW2 (ret.) Richard Taylor Mathew Sr. He preceded her in death in August 2008. She had one daughter, Tempie K. Mathew, who also preceded her in death.
She was a faithful member of the Long Reach New Church of Christ.
She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Richard T. Mathew Jr. (Arv'Oreal); three grandchildren, Martial Washington, Joshua Washington and Kaylor Mathew; three brothers, Earl Hines of Brooklyn, N.Y., Roy (Jean) Hines of Madison, Ga., and George (Juanita) Bryant of Riceboro; four sisters, Alice (Isaiah) Houston of Riceboro, Ollie Mae (Seabe) Smith of Savannah, Lorraine (George) Bacon of Riceboro and Sherry Baker of Allenhurst; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
The wake will from 6-7 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Fist Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1642 Barrington Ferry Road, Riceboro. Her body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing. Burial will be in the Long Reach New Church of Christ Cemetery.
