1st Sgt. Charles E. McHugh

Retired 1st Sgt. Charles E. McHugh, 75, departed this life Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at his Hinesville home, with family by his side, under the care of Hospice.
Mr. McHugh was a native of Pittsburg, Pa., who lived in the Hinesville area for the past 36 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany, Korea, Vietnam, Okinawa, Japan and Fort Stewart. Mr. McHugh helped to create the 24th Division Medical Training Program at Ft. Sill, Okla., devising the Medical Division Nuclear Security Program. His exemplary 23 and a half years of service was filled with many awards and medals, including two Bronzed Stars and two Meritorious Service Medals, and attaining a top secret clearance.
After retiring, Mr. McHugh worked for Jefferson Pilot Insurance of Savannah. He achieved agent of the year three times and military agent of the year twice. From 1984 to 2001 he was a disc jockey at Blue 92, with a four-hour classic oldies show as "The Soul Master." Music was Mr. McHugh's passion. If you called in a request and he didn't have it, he would play a long song, run home and get it. He knew everything about "oldies"-who wrote it, who sang it, how it charted and what year it charted. Mr. McHugh always had music in his home.
From 1986 to 2001 he managed Hinesville's Brice Cinema Movie Theater with his very dear friend, Cecil Cohea.
Mr. McHugh was an honorable man well loved by all. He will be missed by family and friends.
As the "Soul Master" would sign off, "Good bye and goodnight! Thanks for turning me on!"
