CW2 (ret.) Donald Aruthur Peller, 85, of Hinesville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Peller was born April 16, 1928, in Belle Plaine, Minn., to the late Emil and Olga Peller. He was a veteran
of the United States Army
, who retired after 27 years of service, having served during the Korean conflict
and the Vietnam era. Mr. Peller also spent 17 years with the city of Hinesville with Hinesville's Department of Inspections.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 271 where he received his 50-year certificate, as well as serving as secretary for more than 27 years. Mr. Peller was a member of the Fort Stewart Shrine Club, where he served as past president. He was a Scottish Rite 32nd degree, Valley of Savannah. Mr. Peller was a past master of the Eastern Star, Button Gwinnett. He was the scout commissioner of Liberty District, Troop 500 Committee chairman and vigil honor of the Order of the Arrow. Mr. Peller was a member of the Hinesville First Baptist Church and the Wisdom Seekers Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David Peller.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Rolena Peller of Hinesville; son, Donald Lee Peller of Deltona, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Teddy and Mary Ellen Peller of Tamarac, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Sue and Daniel Trujillo of Colliersville, Tenn.; son, Danny Ray Peller of Hinesville; grandchildren, Daniel Lee Peller, Chris Garrison, Katie Jo Peller, Kelly Jo Peller, Michelle Trujillo, Elizabeth Trujillo and Danielle Garrison; great-grandchildren, Sarah Peller, Emily Peller and Charles David Ellington; sister, Delores Nelson of St. Paul, Minn,; sister-in-law, Donna Peller of Bloomington, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington.
Funeral services will at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at First Baptist Church in Hinesville with the Rev. Roy Broughman officiating. Burial will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with Masonic rites and full military honors being rendered.
Pallbearers will be provided by the United States Army. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Scout Troop 500, Masonic Lodge 271 and the Fort Stewart Shrine Club.
