Deacon Harry Lloyd, 85, departed this life on Friday, July 18, 2014, at his residence in Midway.
He was born March 8, 1929, in the McIntosh community to the late Talton and Hester Lloyd.
Deacon Lloyd was educated in the Liberty County public schools. Later in life, he left Liberty County and went to work in Jacksonville. He went to work in the sheetrock industry. Then he decided to return home where he met the love of his life, the late Carrie B. Hargrove. They united in holy matrimony and to this union six children were born. During this marriage, he was employed with a logging company, Fort Stewart and with the CSX Railroad. He retired 19 years later.
He was a hardworking man and believed in the value of his family first. Deacon Lloyd enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball, planting in his garden, family traditions and waiting on special occasions like Thanksgiving. He loved to see his siblings, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren get together for their family dinners.
On Dec. 26, 1991, he joined the late Betty Jane West in holy matrimony.
Besides his parents and wives, two siblings, Talton Lloyd Jr and Elizabeth Lloyd, preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn those who cherish his love, his children, Bernice (Bobby) Kindley, Harry (Annette) Lloyd, Benjamin (Barbara) Lloyd, Sarah Lloyd, Carolyn (Pablo) Rodriguez, Nelson Lloyd, Laura (James) Smith, Christopher (Marie) Harris, Earl Harris, Martha West, Alex West, Charles West; one brother, Willie Smith, all of Midway; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a devoted niece, Hattie Mae Sanders; three nephews; a host of other relatives; his many friends, especially railroad buddies who share in his jokes and laughter, a special friend who called him weekly, Mr. Leroy Curtis, along with Deacon Chester Barrett and Bernis Robertson.
His wake will be 6-7 p.m., Friday, July 25, at Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at Wilderness Missionary Baptist Church on East Oglethorpe Highway in Midway. Pastor Harry Lloyd Jr. will be the eulogist.
Interment will be in the Wilderness Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Midway.
