James B "J.B." Bargeron

James B. "J.B." Bargeron of Midway died Friday, Jan. 11, at Bryan County Health and Rehab at Richmond Hill after a long illness.
He was a native of Burke County and graduate of Martha Berry Schools in Rome. He was the first manager of Planters EMC in Burke County and transferred to Swanee Valley EMC in Live Oak, Fla. He lived the past 62 years in Liberty County. He served in the Navy Seabees during World War II. He retired as general manager of Coastal Electric Membership at Midway. He was a charter councilman of city of Midway, appointed by the Georgia Legislature. He was an emeritus member of Bryan Masonic Lodge #303 and member of Midway United Methodist Church. JB was known for his silver queen corn, BBQ, smoked chickens and coconut pies. He also was a member of the Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Bargeron.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James B. Jr. and Dee Bargeron of Midway; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Reid Sayre of Raleigh, NC, Carol George of Mobile, AL, and Jean and Bob Bender of Atlanta; a sister, Eloise Phillips of South Carolina; eight grandchildren; two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews, including Gloria Bargeron, Mell Bargeron and Marie Smith.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Midway United Methodist Church with the Rev. Douglas Walker officiating. Burial will be in Dorchester Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Midway United Methodist Church, 215 Martin Road, Midway, GA 31320, have been suggested.
