Lillian Grant Whitby, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Altamaha Nursing Home in Jesup.
She was a native of Ojus, Fla., and lived in Hinesville for the past 15 years. Lillian was a great cook and known for her special meal of black-eyed peas, rice and pork, and turnip greens for good luck in the New Year. Lillian always was a very religious woman and enjoyed attending the Baptist churches both in Florida and Georgia, and she had many friends in church. She always was meticulous in her grooming and loved to keep her hair looking nice. She was the first to laugh at a joke and at herself.
She was predeceased by her first and second husbands, Bob Musselwhite and Bob Whitby; a daughter, Evelyn Musselwhite Hemingway; and a brother, Clarence Grant.
Survivors are son-in-law Harold (Butch) Hemingway; stepson EK Jones; grandson Curt Hemingway; granddaughter Kathy Hemingway; three great-grandchildren, Samantha Sebera, Tony Hemingway and Alex Hemingway; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the First Baptist Church of Hinesville.
Her memorial Service will be 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Hinesville.
