Maryruth (Smith) Apperti(1915-2009)

Maryruth Smith Apperti, 93, of Hinesville passed away peacefully at Candler Hospital under hospice care on Sunday, March 29.
She was born in Washington, D.C., on July 7, 1915, and moved to Hinesville in 1978 after retiring from the National Geographic Magazine to be close to her two daughters, Jean Cartwright and Mitzie Crowley. Mrs. Apperti was a member of St. Stephen.
Catholic Church in Hinesville. She is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Michael J. Apperti.
Surviving are her two daughters, Ruthann Crowley and husband James of Hinesville, and Jean Cartwright of Freeport, Texas; a son, Michael John Apperti Jr. and wife Sue of Crisfield, Md.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Bassford of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Michael Crowley and wife Debra of Hinesville, Lynn Dische and husband Steve of Tacoma, Wash., Christi Byrd and husband Mack of Lake Jackson, Texas; great-grandchildren, Travis and Stephen Crowley of Hinesville, Sarah and Veronica Rowland and Nick Dische of Tacoma, Danielle Gray and Christopher Byrd of Lake Jackson; and two great-great-grandchildren, Parker Kevin Gray and Colten Gray of Lake Jackson.
Visitation will be 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel with Father Timothy Donahue officiating.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Springs, Md.
