Mavis Boyd Roberson of Columbia, S.C., daughter of the late William and Lucy Lewis Boyd, was born Aug. 18, 1945, and departed this life on Thursday, April 3, 2014.
Mavis was a graduate of Walker High School in Long County. She was employed at Cooper Sportswear in Newark, N.J., as a leather cutter.
On April 3, 1966, Mavis was united into holy matrimony to Leroy Roberson. To this union, they were blessed with two loving and devoted children, Kimberly and Alisa.
Mavis was affectionately known as "Sister" by many who knew her.
At an early age, she affiliated and served as a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. J.E. Clarke. She was an honorary member of the senior usher ministry, Sunday school secretary, senior choir and Trio Singers.
Her brother, Robert L. Boyd and sister-in-law, Ruth Boyd, preceded her in death.
Mavis leaves to cherish her memory to her devoted daughters, Kimberly (Eugene Jr.) Ashley of Columbia and Alisa (Wade Sr.) Wallace of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Wade Jr., Martess, Javarius Ashley, Latreshia, Blasheed and Brendon; eight great-grandchildren, Ziona, Zyair, Zamari, Zamazi, Serenity, Londynn, Addison and Aniyah; five sisters, Vasale (Dr. C.L. Jordan Jr.) of Glennville, Brenda Smiley of Ludowici, Wanda Boyd of Baxley, Angela (Mose) Boyd of Sanford, N.C., and Anna Kay Cummings of Walthourville; four brothers, Larry (JoeAnn) Boyd of Ludowici, the Rev. Edward (Barbara) Boyd of Hinesville, Willie James (Wynda) Boyd of Glennville and Phillip (Donna) Boyd of Ludowici; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Her viewing will be from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Dorchester Funeral Home of Midway.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church on Macedonia Road in Ludowici. The Rev. Edward Boyd will officiate.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
