Mr. Enoch Robert Miller, 92, departed this life July 5, 2014, at his residence in Hinesville.
Deacon Enoch R. Miller was born March 8, 1922, in Liberty County to the late Rebecca Miller-Shipman and the late York Miller.
He was educated in the Liberty County School System.
He moved to New York at an early age and that is where he met the love of his life. They had a very humble beginning, and one of the things he enjoyed was cooking old-time country meals. He was a man of purpose, and one of the things he purposed early in his life was to have a wife and a family. After a three-year courtship, Enoch was joined in holy matrimony his sweetheart, Ms. Catherine Brown, on Aug. 15, 1950. To this beautiful union, three children were born, LaVaughn D. Miller and Debra A. Miller (both preceded him in death), and Barbara Miller-Johnson.
Deacon Miller was employed by General Motors Corporation in Terry Town, New York, where he was a dedicated worker for 30 years before retiring. After retirement, Deacon Miller returned to his hometown of Hinesville, where he was employed by the Liberty County School System as a bus driver for many years.
In 1979, Deacon Miller joined the First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church family. He served in the deacons' ministry for many years until his health prohibited it. He was known for his firm handshake, pleasant smile, kind words and, most of all, for being a master gardener.
He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of 63 years, Deaconess Catherine Miller and one daughter, Barbara Miller-Johnson, both of Hinesville; one son, Tommy E. Miller of Newark, New Jersey; one brother, Edward Shipman of Hinesville; two sisters-in-law, Johnnie Mae Miller and Edna Mae Miller, both of Hinesville; four grandchildren, David Miller of Atlanta, Danna Miller, Chicago, Illinois, and Siddel Johnson and Landis Johnson, both of Hinesville; one adopted son, Arthur B. Curry (Diane) of Hinesville; and a host of great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 124 Rebecca St. in Hinesville. His body will be placed in the church for viewing from 12: noon until the hour of service. The Rev. Sinclair Thorne will be the eulogist. Interment will be in the First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Hinesville.
