Command Sgt. Major (ret.) Gerald "Jerry" R. Jacobson, 86, of Walthourville, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.
Jerry was born in Eau Claire, Wis., to Arthur and Ada Jacobson. He served in the United States Army for 23 years, before retiring as a command sergeant major at Fort Stewart. Jerry served during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Later he moved his family to Oklahoma where he worked for Northrop Worldwide Aircraft. In 2004, he and wife, Erline moved back to Georgia to enjoy retirement.
Jerry was affiliated with the Masons for more than 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Delores McCarthy.
Survivors are his wife, Erline Ray Jacobson; two daughters, Lynne Weston and Traci Forbis, both of Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren Laci (Zeke) Hathcock of Suwanee, Samantha (Luke) Stone of McKinney, Texas, and Wesley (Jordyn) Zimmerman of Norman, Okl.; two great-granddaughters, Adison Stone and Harper Hathcock; and one aunt, Irene Jacobson of Chippewa Falls, Wis.
His funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with the Rev. Eric Rentz officiating. Full military honors will be rendered.
Pallbearers will be provided by the United States Army.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at www.woundedwarriorsproject.org/donate.
