Retired SGM John Robert "Bob" Menard, 72, of Hinesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, after a short illness.
John was born, raised and lived in Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada, until the age of 19, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he spent more 29 years serving the country he loved until his retirement in 1990. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War when he earned several medals including the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star.
All who knew him will dearly miss John's charismatic personality and his ability to touch every life he encountered positively. John had a kindred spirit, never met a stranger, and always greeted you with a smile.
During his retirement years, he spent time working in places where he could best use his gift to touch the lives of others. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by both parents, Albert and Marie Menard; a brother, Lloyd Menard; and an infant son, John Robert III.
Survivors are his wife of 33 years, Susan Menard; brother, Anthony Menard (Gaeton); two sisters, Gale Larocque and Shirley Harkai; daughter, Melody Menard (Dave); three sons, Timothy Menard, Gerard Schrader Jr. (Charisma) and Fredrick Schrader (April); daughter-in-law, Tammy Schrader; 11 grandchildren, Jonathan Bruce, Michael Bruce Jr., Desiree Robbins (Justin), Tiffany Stumler, Nathan Barker, Ashley Schrader, Madelin Starr Schrader, Blaize Schrader, Collin Schrader, Carlos Lopez-Garcia and Carmen Lopez-Garcia; 10 great-grandchildren, Michael Bruce III, Hersel Cole Bruce, Austin Cordy, Olivia Stumler, Ethan Robbins, Bradyn Robbins, Leila Robbins, Brysen Barker, Kiarah Lopez-Morelli and Carah Lopez-Morelli; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Victory Assembly of God Church, 612 Gen. Stewart Way, Hinesville. A private interment ceremony will be at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances are requested to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or VVA Chapter 789, P.O. Box 1679, Hinesville, GA 31310.
