Mrs. Georgia Mae Quarterman, 90, departed this life on Monday, July 28, 2014, in Akron, Ohio.
A native of Liberty County, Mrs. Quarterman was born on July 19, 1924, the third child of the late William and Elizabeth Baker. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Tommie Quarterman Sr. Thirteen children were born to this union. One daughter, Larcenia, preceded her in death.
Mother Quarterman was a homemaker, loving wife and beautiful mother. At an early age, she gave her life to God, first becoming a member of St. James AME Church. Later she became a member of Beach Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. W.C. Shipman, where she served faithfully until her health failed.
Mother Quarterman leaves to cherish her memory nine daughters, Carolyn (Francis) Lee Jr. of Richmond Hill, Ernestine (Alexander) Stallworth of Akron, Ohio, Sherlene Coates of Hinesville, Irene (Elder Robert) Harris of Fleming, Geneva (Earl) Kindley-Williams of Hinesville, Margie (Ronnie) Brooks of Akron, Rosalyn Sanchious of Hinesville, Evangelist Lovell (Guy) Foster of Hampton, Virginia, and Shelia P. (Victor) Quarterman-Varner of Akron; three sons, Tommie (Patrice) Quarterman Jr. of Fleming, Deacon Graylan (Camilla) Quarterman of Hinesville and Bernie (Dorothy) Quarterman of Fleming; 42 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
Her wake will be from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at the Dorchester Funeral Home, 7842 E. Oglethorpe Highway in Midway.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Beach Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 4196 N. Coastal Highway in Fleming. Her body will rest at the church for visitation from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service. The Rev. Clarence Jackson Jr. will be the eulogist and the Rev. Douglas Carter will preside. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family asks that instead of giving flowers, please make donations to the Beach Hill Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Mother Georgia M. Quarterman.
