Harriette R. Simmons, 73, passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Harriette was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Savannah to the late Levy and Margie Ray. She was raised in the Rye Patch Community and graduated from Long County High School in 1957. She worked for St. Mary's State Bank and also served as the chief registrar in the Long County Courthouse. Harriette was very involved with the Long County 4-H program when her children were young and later was very active with the Long County Wildlife Festival.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ludowici and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, collecting and reading in her spare time. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly.
In addition to her parents, her brother, Steve Ray, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joseph A. Simmons of Ludowici; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery and Kathy Simmons of Ludowici and Kelsey and Lynn Simmons of Ludowici; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lydia Simmons of Ludowici and Lila and Steve Moore of Brunswick; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Jackie Ray of Hinesville and Cliff and Cathy Ray of Rye Patch; one sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Julius Riddlespur of Anniston, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Kaley Simmons, Cale Simmons, Audrey Moore, Austin Simmons, Trent Simmons, Molly White and Jackson Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Howard & Jones Funeral Home
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the First Baptist Church of Ludowici with the Revs. Eric Rentz and David Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Cliff Ray Jr., Keith Ray, Austin Simmons, Trent Simmons, Randy Simmons and Cale Simmons.
