Today there is a hush in our hearts as we celebrate the homegoing of our mother and grandmother. Helen B. Stewart, 83, of Midway entered into eternal rest on Dec. 11, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.

Mrs. Stewart was born Sept. 29, 1929, to the late Rush and Geneva Bacon in Taylors Creek. She was a lifelong resident of Liberty County. Mrs. Stewart was a self-employed cosmetologist and homemaker. Mrs. Stewart joined Pleasant Grove AME Church at an early age and she served faithfully as an usher. In her earthly voyage, Mrs. Stewart served as the matriarch of her family. She enjoyed spending every waking moment with her family and friends; attending family functions, cooking and enjoying her grandchildren.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel, Rush, Jr., Harry and Leroy Bacon; and one sister, Elease Myers.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 31 years, Curtis Stewart; one son, Felton Baker Jr.; four daughters, Mildred Baker, Julia (Leddrew) McLaurin, Gloria (Sanford) Cameron and Rosemary Britton; three brothers, Carrol (Ophene) Bacon, Ringwood Bacon and Earnest (Laura Bell) Bacon; one sister, Pauline Baker; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home, 1822 East Oglethorpe Highway in Flemington.
Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor C.L. Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at B and B Cemetery in Walthourville. The church address is 1370 Shaw Road in Hinesville.
