Joanne Catherine Shives of Hinesville passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Hospice House in Savannah.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born in Wilmington, Del., she was the daughter of the late Jeanette (DeShong) and Jesse Robinson, both of Delaware. Joanne was a lifelong resident of Hinesville, she graduated from Walden University with a master's degree in education and was currently working as a fourth grade teacher for East Broad Elementary in Savannah. While working as a teacher, Ms. Shives especially enjoyed teaching children to read.
Joanne was a truly beloved person. She was a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She instilled strength and a fighting spirit in her surviving children and grandchild. Joanne was diagnosed with rheumatic fever as a child which resulted in poor health most of her life. She recently received the gift of a heart transplant only to succumb to cancer two short years later.
She was a wonderful inspiration of strength to those that knew her and her fighting spirit has been instilled in those she left behind. Joanne had a wonderful sense of humor and a sharp wit. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Joanne leaves behind two daughters, Amy Drinkman and Taylor Shives of Midway; one granddaughter Hailey Miller of Midway; one sister; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Flemington for those that would like to attend.
Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
