LUDOWICI - Raymond "Gus" Nobles, 83, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his family and under the care of Heartland Hospice.

He was born in Ludowici on Feb. 20, 1933, to Raymond E. and Minnie Baxter Nobles, living here most of his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired after 38 years of service from the Georgia Department of Transportation Enforcement Division with the rank of captain. He was employed with Morland Altobelli Associates Inc. and served as registrar for many years with Long County.
He was a member of Pigott Branch Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beatrice Hutcheson Nobles; son, Charles Nobles; brother, Cecil Nobles; and sisters, Florrie Moody and Freda N. Eaken.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Robert) Driggers of Ludowici; grandchildren, Nikki Nobles, Candis (Michael) Polk, Chase (Kylie) Nobles, Brandi (Jamie) Smiley; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home in Glenville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Pigott Branch Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pigott Branch Church Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Nobles, Craig Nobles, Jimmy Nobles, Vance Epperson Jr., Fred Roadman, Wilton Strickland and Charles Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of law enforcement.
