Violet J. Summerall, also known as, Matuce, 89, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital after a sudden illness.
She was married to William P. Troutman Jr., U.S. Navy retired, of Wilmington, N.C., until his passing in 1967. She then was married to James Summerall of Jacksonville, Florida, until his death.
Ms. Summerall was a devoted and spirited mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Matuce's passion was cooking for her family and friends. She also dearly loved animals of any kind. She was a member of Hinesville First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Babs and George Holtzman of Hinesville, who she cared for and lived with for 33 years; a grandson and his wife, Gregory and Isabel Holtzman of St. Louis, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Elisa and Ethan Holtzman; many nieces and nephews; and her adopted ""daughter,"" Dee Baker.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 p.m.Tuesday, July 8, at Babs' and George Holtzman's home, 801 Forest St. in Hinesville. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Dale Thornton, will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Hinesville First United Methodist Church. Burial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
