Deacon Melvin "Dewey" Robertson entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at his Midway residence with family at his side under the care of Island Hospice after an extended illness.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Julia (Gamble) Robertson; nine sons, Leroy Robertson of Willow, N.C., Fred (Grace), Karl, Frank (Paulette) Robertson, all of Miami, Fla., Melvin III, Billy, Benjamin, John and Craig Robertson, all of Midway; five daughters, Janice Albright of Milwaukee, Wis., Joyce Wilds, Pearlie Robertson, Frances Gordon and Tara Robertson, all of Midway; a foster daughter, Katina Slaughter; two grandchildren he reared as his own, Anthony Robertson of Jacksonville and Cassandra A. Holmes of Hinesville; included in his rearing, Willie M. Cross of Bristol, Conn., and the late Errin Robertson; 68 grandchildren; 137 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
His viewing will be from 1-5 pm on Friday, June 20, at Dorchester Funeral Home.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at St. James Community Sports Center, 1140 Holmestown Road, Midway. His body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing until the hour of the service. There will be no viewing after. Bishop Moses Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
